We ensure that all our breeding animals have undergone testing for Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). Dogs with Optigen Pattern A do not carry the gene responsible for PRA. Dogs with Optigen Pattern B carry the gene, but it remains inactive, making them carriers who can pass it on to their offspring without experiencing blindness themselves. Dogs with Optigen Pattern C possess the active form of the gene and will eventually develop blindness between the ages of two and seven. They also have the potential to pass on the gene to their offspring. Our dogs exclusively fall into the Optigen Pattern A or B category. We meticulously select their pairings to prevent any possibility of producing offspring with Optigen Pattern C. Additionally, all our dogs, including puppies, receive regular veterinary checks, are micro-chipped for identification purposes, and receive their vaccinations on schedule.
I welcomed my first American Eskimo into my life nearly two decades ago, specifically in 1999. Instantly captivated by the breed, it took me several years to acquire a second one, and subsequently a third, and so on. For approximately 13 years, we have been actively involved in breeding American Eskimos. Our kennel, known as White Phantom Kennels, holds registration with the Canadian Kennel Club, and we maintain our membership as valued members. Our focus lies in raising American Eskimos of superior quality, ensuring their health is thoroughly checked. We offer toy, miniature, and standard variations of the breed.
