Slow Cooked Chicken and Veggie Medley: Homemade Dog Food Recipe

Ingredients

  • Chicken Breasts (boneless, skinless) - 2
  • Sweet Potato - 2cup
  • Peas - 1lb
  • Carrots - 1lb
  • Brown Rice - 1cup
  • Water - 2.5cup

Instructions

  1. Peel and cube the sweet potatoes.
  2. Thaw the peas and carrots if using frozen vegetables. If not, then peel and chop the carrots into small, bite-sized coins. Once done set aside.
  3. Cut the chicken breasts into roughly size equal sized pieces each.
  4. In a slow cooker, layer the ingredients in the following order: sweet potatoes, chicken pieces, peas, carrots, and brown rice.
  5. Pour the water over the ingredients, ensuring the chicken is completely covered by the vegetables.
  6. Cook on high for 5 hours or on low for 8 hours.
  7. Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker.
  8. Shred the chicken using forks or by using a stand mixer on low speed.
  9. Stir the shredded chicken back into the rice and veggie mixture until evenly distributed. And you're done!

Additional Information

Don't Have A Slow Cooker? No Problem.

  1. In a large pot, add 2 1/2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
  2. Add the brown rice to the boiling water and cook it according to the package instructions until it is tender. Once cooked, set it aside.
  3. In a separate pot, fill it with water and bring it to a boil. Add the cubed sweet potatoes and cook them until they are fork-tender. Drain the cooked sweet potatoes and set them aside.
  4. In a large skillet or pot, heat a little oil over medium heat.
  5. Add the chicken breast pieces and cook them until they are no longer pink in the center. Make sure they are cooked through. Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and allow it to cool slightly.
  6. Shred the cooked chicken into small, bite-sized pieces using forks or by cutting it with a knife.
  7. In the same skillet or pot, add the peas and carrots. Cook them until they are tender.
  8. Once the peas and carrots are cooked, add the shredded chicken, cooked brown rice, and cubed sweet potatoes to the skillet or pot. Mix everything together until well combined.
  9. Cook the mixture for an additional 5 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  10. Remove from heat and let the homemade dog food cool before serving it to your furry friend.

Note: Adjust cooking times as needed to ensure all ingredients are cooked through.
